Our Mission and Values
Own IT! Dance Productions is a dance program centered on performance, leadership, and artistic development. Participants learn foundational dance techniques across various styles, including tap, contemporary, and hip-hop.
In addition to dance training, the program incorporates regular check-in sessions and activities that encourage participants to listen, share ideas, support one another, and grow together. Classes at Own IT! are fun, creative, and collaborative—designed to foster confidence, connection, and personal growth.

Own IT! Dance Productions is a youth-focused dance program centered on performance, leadership, and teamwork development. Participants build strong foundations in dance technique across multiple styles, including tap, contemporary, and hip-hop, while also developing confidence, discipline, and collaboration.
Beyond technique, the program emphasizes personal growth through regular check-in sessions and group activities that encourage participants to listen, support one another, share ideas, and work through challenges together. This creates a positive, inclusive environment where dancers grow both artistically and personally.

Meet the Instructors
Janice Brooks
(Owner/Artistic Director
Lead Choreographer & Instructor)
Own IT! Dance Productions Owner and Artistic Director Janice Brooks is a Queens, Long Island City native, has been dancing for over 30 years. Over her 20 year work career Janice has the pleasure to work with inner city youth at various non-profit organizations and local dance studios. Passion has allowed Janice to use the tool of dance to inspire, motivate and engage. Janice’s dedication to youth and dance motivated her to begin a dance company and in 2018 she started Own It! Dance Productions.

Alana Averett
(Rising Stars Instructor)
Alana Averett (she/her) is a Brooklyn-based dancer and educator committed to fostering curiosity, creativity, and confidence in every student she works with. She holds dual B.A. degrees in Dance Performance & Choreography and Psychology from the University of South Carolina.
As a dance educator, Alana strives to create supportive, technique-driven classes that encourage dancers to explore their individuality and deepen their connection to movement.
